The Delight of Teaching Yoga in Costa Rica

Birds chirping. Palms swaying in the wind. Cicada acoustics. As the sounds blend around us, we begin our morning class in beautiful Atenas, Costa Rica. We take note of the waking energy of Mother Nature around us, before we tune within to begin the subtle dialog with our own Body, Mind and Spirit.
I am blessed with the joy of sharing the practice of Yoga with wonderful people from all over the world in this little town of Atenas, in the hills of the Central Valley. The town is known for having the ‘best climate in the world,’ according to National Geographic, which makes it ideal for our weekly yoga classes at Ana’s Place Apartments. It also makes an ideal retirement spot for many North Americans and Europeans, not to mention the many vacationers that pass through our town each year.
Ana’s Place Apartments is a perfect spot for Yoga, and I’m blessed to have met Ana and her daughter Diane, both of who are two of my most avid Yoginis. Only a minute’s walk from central park in Atenas centro, Ana’s Place is a tranquil
There is so much positive energy and natural beauty in Atenas and all of Costa Rica that make them perfect for practicing Yoga and coming into the Self. The people of Costa Rica are kind and tranquil by nature and the country abolished its army in 1949, creating a peaceful consciousness present in only a few special places around the world. A difference perhaps so subtle, not everyone will notice it, but practice Yoga in this environment and the effects can be most profound.
I’m blessed to be sharing the amazing journey of Yoga with the wonderful people of Atenas. The loving and open energy shared in our classes surpasses any fancy studio, even with our make shift bolsters, hodge-podge of belts and scarfs, and array of different colored blocks. Soon, I hope to host our annual Yoga & Spanish Immersion retreat right here in our home town, where people will become inspired by the amazing views from their B&B in Vista Atenas, experience the local culture of the local Feria (Farmers Market), and enjoy a sunset Yoga practice on the beach. Check back with us soon about this culturally-inspired retreat from Pura Vida Yoga Vacations.
